I’ll confess to have never listened to a song by ManMan Savage in my life. There was reason for this, having deemed leader of the Savage movement, 21 Savage just about passable, I didn’t want to hear the ones who weren’t as good. However, I have listened to a lot of Lil Uzi Vert and liked a fair portion of it, so my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to listen to this song. I don’t know if they have worked together previously and much like the combination of Skepta and RiFF RaFF from a previous review, this does not work. It doesn’t function in a stylistic sense, a melodic sense in parts and goddamn I really don’t mess with ManMan. Not just for how stupid I feel typing an artist’s name as ManMan, but his delivery just doesn’t do anything for me. It doesn’t have the monotone, serial killer-esque delivery that 21 Savage has, and it doesn’t have the overly aggressive delivery that “Gangsta Rap” purports to have. I would point at the delivery of Traffic on ScHoolboy Q’s “Tookie Knows II” as an example of how delivery really adds tone to the believability and feel of the bars. To be honest, on raps alone obviously (ManMan could be real in the field for all I know) I feel like Young Thug would catch a body before ManMan. I’m not going to bother trying to talk about lyrics because with this brand of mumble rap, it really isn’t the point at all. But at least Lil Uzi has some interesting melodic flows throughout the track, I would have much preferred this track with him and someone like Travis Scott or Desiigner (Oh my God, did I just ask for a Desiigner feature?!). So all in all, Uzi delivers just what you’d expect, if you like his music you’ll probably like this and if you don’t like this definitely won’t change your mind.
Verdict on ManMan & Lil Uzi Vert – They also need to stay the hell away from each other. ManMan needs to add more to his delivery but let me be clear I don’t want any problems with anyone that has the word Savage in their name…and Uzi…well just keep doing what you’re doing, you’re not going to gain or lose fans doing this.
