I am not one to retract any statements I make in my writing. Although, I did say previously I would never listen to another Lil Yachty song, but just like with RiFF RaFF my damn morbid curiosity got the better of me. So here I am but *plot twist* I am not triple face-palming in disappointment. I really enjoy the production of Maaly Raw, primarily through his work with a mumble rap favourite of mine, Lil Uzi Vert, so I thought maybe I’d like this beat enough to give Yachty another go. I was right. The beat has this lovely little flute loop throughout which perfectly suits the sound Yachty has, building on the only previous song he was featured on that I enjoyed, which was D.R.A.M’s “Broccoli”. Definitely a sly banger beat, which I would imagine would be insane to perform live.
A$AP Ferg has really been hit or miss this year in terms of the quality of his releases. Dizzying highs such as “Psycho” and “Let It Bang ft ScHoolboy Q” have been soured by essentially the rest of his Always Strive And Prosper record. Here however, he is back sounding fresh and interesting; Still not doing anything super amazing in terms of lyrics or flow but his delivery keeps the track bubbling along nicely.
Welp. Here it is. Lil Yachty. Lil Boat. Well…I love Yachty on this. He is hilariously good on this, with a similar brand of bizzare yet humorous “flexing” lyrics to RiFF RaFF when he’s on form. It’s so bad it’s amazing, and his flow just makes it all the more funny for some reason. This works, I don’t know why and I’m not about to start pulling at the threads. Never thought I’d say it but I like a Lil Yachty song. First sign of the apocalypse maybe?
Verdict on Lil Yachty & A$AP Ferg – *sigh* Touché Lil Boat…Touché *slow clap*
